India e-Visa Cost Calculator: 30-Day, 1-Year or 5-Year?

Compare the 30-day, 1-year and 5-year India e-Tourist Visa for your trip. Enter your month, trips and stay length to see the cheapest option that actually covers your plan.

Uses the Government of India e-Tourist Visa fees published for US citizens and most eligible nationalities ($25 for 30 days from July to March, $10 in April to June, $40 for one year, $80 for five years). Some nationalities pay different fees. Always confirm the current fee on the official portal before you pay. Estimates exclude any payment-processor charges.

How this India e-Visa cost calculator works

The calculator compares the three e-Tourist Visa options the Government of India publishes: a 30-day visa, a one-year visa and a five-year visa. You enter the month you will apply, how many trips you expect in the next 12 months, how long your longest trip is and how many people are travelling. It then works out the total cost of each option and tells you which ones actually cover your plan.

It applies three rules taken from the official e-Visa portal:

  • The 30-day visa covers a stay of up to 30 days and cannot be extended or converted. Each trip needs its own application.
  • The one-year and five-year visas allow multiple entries, but your total stay is capped at 180 days in India per calendar year.
  • A stay over 180 days is not possible on an e-Tourist Visa. You would need a regular visa instead.

Which e-Visa should you choose?

Use these rules of thumb alongside the calculator:

  1. One trip of 30 days or less: the 30-day visa is the cheapest, and especially cheap from April to June.
  2. One trip longer than 30 days, up to 180 days: you need the one-year or five-year visa. The one-year visa is cheaper unless you expect to return.
  3. Two or more trips within a year: the one-year visa usually beats paying for two 30-day visas.
  4. Repeat visits over several years: the five-year visa costs $16 per year of validity and pays off once you would otherwise buy a third one-year visa.

What the calculator does not cover

  • Restricted and protected areas. An e-Visa does not replace special permits for some border and tribal regions. Check the Northeast India permit checker if you plan to visit the Northeast.
  • Land entry. An e-Visa is valid at designated airports and seaports only.
  • Other visa types. Business, medical, student and work visas have different rules and fees.
  • Your nationality. Eligibility and fees vary by country. The official portal lists eligible countries.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an India e-Visa cost for US citizens?

The e-Tourist Visa costs $25 for 30 days when applying from July to March, $10 for 30 days in April to June, $40 for one year and $80 for five years, based on the Government of India’s published fees.

Is the 5-year India e-Visa worth it?

It is worth it if you expect to visit India more than once over several years. At $80 it works out to $16 per year of validity, so it beats buying new one-year visas at $40 each once you would buy more than two.

Can I stay more than 30 days on an India e-Tourist Visa?

Yes, but only with the one-year or five-year visa, which allow up to 180 days in India per calendar year. The 30-day visa cannot be extended.

Do I need a separate visa for each trip?

For the 30-day visa, yes. The one-year and five-year visas allow multiple entries during their validity.

When should I apply for my India e-Visa?

Apply two to three weeks before you travel. Avoid applying many months early for the one-year or five-year visas, because their validity starts when the ETA is granted.
